Ongoing Events - The First Saturday of each month is "First
Saturday Festival" in the neighborhood beginning officially at 9 and
running unofficially until 2 - 4 pm. Vendors of many styles and venues
rent space and set up on the lawns of Historic Village merchants to sell
their wares. Typically we have antiques dealers, community services clubs
and churches, crafters, farmers selling produce and plants, artisans
selling jewelry and other wonderful things as well as a few of us who just
cleaned out the attic or garage or inherited a bunch of our great Aunt's
treasures we don't have room for. Whatever the mix, it's fun and eventful
with food vendors peddling their good smellin' creations and shop keepers
peddlin' their newest wares and sharing their air conditioning or heating,
depending on the season. To reserve your space, call Bonnie at 465-9200
($10 for 10 X 10').
The first Tuesday of each month is also a good time to visit Grumbles and
the Historic Village as Girl's Day Out rules the neighborhood. Free gifts
to the first 10 buyers in each store make it a fun race early through 12
shops for 12 free gifts. Then back around at a more leisurely pace mid
morning to graze the homemade sandwiches & desserts, fresh fruit and
veggies and check out the special sales exclusively for
Girls-Day-Out-goers. Check with Grumbles for an update as we'll be doing
floral demonstrations in the fall (learn how to make a cornucopia, an
advent wreath, seasonal wreaths, bows and more) on Girl's Day Out.
Be sure to visit the barracks next door where our brand new neighbor,
Patty Cakes, is getting established. Michelle does quality custom cakes
and cookie bouquets as her mainstay. Our other neighbors you should be
sure to visit are Always Something, The Stitch Niche, The Book Nook, The
Beading Gallery, The Cottonbelle, My Favorite Things, The Two Sisters,
Our Florida Books & Art, Abigail's Attic, Tara's Boutique and Ye Old
Thrift Shop.
Stay tuned to the neighborhood for Antique Car Show (Sat. Sept. 8), Music
Festivals, Victorian Holiday Festival (always the Sat. night after
Thanksgiving - Nov. 24 this year) Jazz Up Dunnellon (a Sat. night in
Oct.), Boom Town Days (the 3rd weekend in April) and several more events
throughout the year. Our Florida Books & Art does (at least) quarterly
book signings and artists visits. Enjoy a "Singing River Tour" on the
Rainbow or Withlacoochee Rivers with Captain Jon Semmes at Dunnellon City
Boat Ramp or Captain Mike at Stumpknockers. Be sure to visit Rainbow
Springs State Park for $1 admission to walk through the beautiful park and
see the headsprings. Swim, picnic, do a snorkel tour, learn about native
plants or rent a kayak.
